Privacy & Cookies

Your account. If you sign in with GitHub or Discord, we store your display name, email, avatar, the provider’s user id, and your role/reputation on the site — so we can run your account and attribute your contributions.

What you post. Definitions, examples, tags, votes and reports are public and shown next to your display name.

Moderation. Submissions are screened by an AI model to catch harmful content; the verdict is stored, and borderline items are reviewed by a human.

We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand how the site is used. By default this is fully anonymous — events feed aggregate statistics only and are not linked to you.

Analytics requests are sent to lexicon.urban-emoji.com, a subdomain of ours that forwards them to PostHog’s EU servers. This only changes the address the data travels through — not what is collected, who processes it, or your consent choices.

We link analytics to your account only if you accept, and you can withdraw that consent at any time using the controls above. We honour your browser’s Do-Not-Track signal, use no third-party advertising trackers, don’t sell your data, and don’t record your browsing sessions.

What the analytics records. If you accept, we log the pages you open and the things you click: which button or link it was, and the text on it. We never log what you type into a box, and your name and email are excluded from this even though the page shows them to you. We don’t replay your visit, record your screen, or track your mouse.

Error reports. When something breaks, we send an error report (the error type, message and technical stack trace) to PostHog so we can find and fix it. Error reports are operational telemetry and are never linked to your account, regardless of your analytics choice.

AI-assisted monitoring. We use PostHog’s AI features to scan this analytics and error data for problems — things like error spikes, broken pages or searches that stop returning results. This analysis runs on the same aggregate and anonymised data described above; it doesn’t collect anything new about you or build profiles of individual visitors.

PostHog itself stores nothing in cookies — only in your browser’s local storage, and only after you opt in.

We rely on a small set of providers to run the service: Cloudflare (hosting, database and AI moderation), PostHog (analytics, error tracking and AI-assisted monitoring), and Discord (private moderation notifications). GitHub and Discord act as sign-in providers.

Subject to law, you can request access to, correction or deletion of your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw analytics consent at any time. To make a request, contact [privacy contact email]. You can also complain to your data-protection authority.
